This week we begin a new chapter...we don't have a title yet, but we move into a new home, in a new country, a new culture, a new language.
We have been here only 5 days and we have learned so much:
1. You can communicate almost anything with a few basic vocabulary words and a lot of sign language.
2. Everyone here loves babies, especially our baby!
3. When you go to a Catholic mass, it doesn't matter what language they are speaking, you know exactly what is going on.
4. Wal-Mart is everywhere (though here it is called "National," it is owned by the same parent company and they use the same logo).
5. The food here is really, really good (unless you are 5).
6. When you live here, every night is bath night.
7. Tom & Jerry is funny in Portuguese too.
Everyone is friendly, everyone tries to help us. The kids love it. The weather is beautiful, sunny, blue skies and 80s every day. They have phenomenal fruit. We are staying in a hotel and eating in restaurants but ready to get into our house (which has a pool and a banana tree!). We move later this week into the house. We're anxious to get settled and into a routine, start school and language training and so on. I have spent the last 2 months practicing "letting go" as a parent. I still need more practice. :)
