Lego Lessons

We were having a busy building day yesterday. D completed a beautiful multi-colored Lego dream home and wanted some Lego guys to go in it. M, however, had other plans. She was hording all the Lego people, and it irritated D greatly. I thought if I could determine what she was make believing, I could guide those little guys into D's house, so I asked her, "What are your Lego guys doing?" Her reply.....

"Waiting for Jesus."

Wait.............it gets better.

D snorted and (still frustrated) told M in no uncertain terms that Jesus is already dead.
"But he's coming back to Earth, you know," I told him. Apparently this was news to him.
"Really! Jesus is coming back to Earth! Then I can meet him!!"
That's the whole idea, kid.

What I Love About Babies

This is not a new photo of baby H, but one of my favorites. YES, her hair is still that dark! I can't believe it! I may be able to actually claim this one!
Here is what I am loving about baby H today....
-She's cooing and studying faces intently. It's nice to know she notices I'm here.
-She occasionally sleeps through the night till the wee hours of the morning!
-She's quiet---at least compared to the other two. :)
-When she wakes and I take off her swaddle blankets, she stretches in the most adorable way, which I need to capture on video so I can remember it and smile for the rest of my life.
-She just started to smile, and that reward never gets old!

Role Playing

We love role playing at our house. I especially love it when I can play on it all day long to accomplish tasks we need to do.
"Baby giraffe, show me how you eat your broccoli."
"I need an airplane pilot to fly this clean laundry up to D's room."
"All hippos have their teeth brushed before they take a nap!"
...and so it goes. I definitely exploit their imaginations to get what I need. I love pretend day. In fact, I am thinking about dedicating a day of the week to it..."Make Believe Monday" or something of the sort. We could accomplish so much.

Middle Child

M adores her baby sister. Honestly, you could not have brought home a better gift for her. She is mother hen and then some. However....I think she is starting to contract middle child syndrome. She's noticed she is no longer the baby, but not child #1 either. Baby H gets time & attention, D gets special privileges because he's older. As for M, there has been a whole lot of begging for attention lately. And a bit of obvious frustration on her part. I really think this picture says it all. And it honestly cracks me up. I am thinking of blowing it up to a poster size and hang it in my closet for when I need a bit of comic relief!

One Month Old

Well, baby H is now one month old and where has the time gone? I have not made a single entry in the baby book, nor the life journals I keep--one for each kid--and I have only printed a small handful of the many pictures I've taken. Honestly, I already feel sorry for her. I can see where this is going......hand me downs and tag alongs, will she be able to develop a personality of her own? She certainly won't need to speak for herself. D & M already have that covered.

Anyway, here are a few recent pictures.
She is just like a doll....though she is growing so fast!
This is why I can't leave her out of my sight, M would smother her with love. I'm wondering when this will wear off?

Grandma's Girls

I love this picture. It reminds me of all the baby things I love---the tight fists, the scrunched up ears and pug nose, the triple chin even though they are born pretty lean, soft skin, fine hair, and neck folds that inevitably end up full of spit up.
I love the way my baby smells. Maybe this is Mother Nature's way. On their own, spit up, dreft, and baby powder diapers are not particularly appealing scents. Put them all together and they are heaven.

Mommy the Grouch

Okay, this one is my fault. One day I told the kids they should be really really good until mommy's had her coffee because she is grouchy until she's had a good cup of brew. Well, guess what? It stuck. Mommy the Grouch was born. Sometimes they just call me "Oscar." I guess it's a good reminder. If they call me Oscar, I do an attitude check.

I can't complain, baby H is a good baby, she sleeps pretty well, even at night. We had a stretch with colds and ear infections with D & M where H won the award for best sleeper of the 3!! Nonetheless, the older I get, the harder it seems to survive on broken sleep. When D was born my mom told me that you'll begin to think you'll NEVER be not tired ever again in your life, and then one day (when your kids are much much much older) you'll wake up feeling "refreshed" and think..."I'm not tired!" I'm waiting for that day.....in 8 or 1o years.....and by then I'll be in my mid-40s, and probably feel like my mid-50s! :)
