Cattle Wranglers

In case you've been wondering who the cutest little cattle wranglers on the prairie are, I have the answer for you. I was blessed with an easy costume request by my son, and a very compliant daughter willing to wear whatever I put on her. They did make an adorable team though! (and I had the perfect excuse to buy some tiny, yet adorable pink boots)

And thus starts the school activities, parties, programs....Families were invited to the preschool Halloween parade, mini program and to watch the "trick or treat manners" practice sessions.


They paraded in to show off costumes to waiting parents, then lined up and sang a few songs and did a few finger plays they've surely been practicing all week. And where is my son during all of this? Sitting down in the back not mumbling a word or wiggling a finger. Shy? Not likely. Disinterested? Probably so. But I wonder, is this what preschool is like every day? Does he sit in the back and ignore all the activity? And if so, why on earth am I paying tuition?


Teachers then lead the kids on a trick or treat practice session around the room where anxious 3 & 4 year olds tried to be polite and patient while waiting for a candy. All 13 at the same time! Impressively, the teacher talked about what is and is not polite in this situation, and trick or treating safety too.

Other than the fact that he seemed oblivious to most of the activity that morning, I think he had a very good time at this first big school event. However, he did have one issue with the day. Though the teacher has been talking about real and pretend all month long, and they all disclosed their costume before hand so everyone would be prepared, D was absolutely terrified of his teacher's hair on Halloween morning. I was still holding him 30 minutes into school that day with his face buried in my chest. He'd loosen his grip only when she'd take off her wig, but tighten back up when she made a move toward puttinig it back on.

Pretty scary, huh?
