Perhaps best of all was the Uno tournament we had with Grandma and the cousin. Basic rules and very little strategy provided hours of entertainment for D & S during his visit to the Big River. Grandma did the teaching and both boys got the hang of it pretty quick. Then, as only a 7 year old can do, the stakes were raised.....we need a prize for the winner! Always game for a good bit of competition, I obliged. The coveted prize.....winner gets to choose dessert. (and since it was hot and humid, anything baked was off the list!) We played around 7 or 8 hands, including a tie breaker between S & me. Here is how it played out.......
We played on the floor. There was a two fold reason for this.....#1 it was easier for D to get and sit there...
and #2, it made his strategy of laying out all your cards face up (while also playing with lego cars in between turns) so much easier!
D also showed us you can make neat shapes (like Christmas trees!) if you get enough cards while you are (not so patiently) waiting your turn at play.
The champion victorious (and just for the record, I really TRIED to beat him, because I really wanted to choose dessert!)
And the long awaited prize.....dessert of champions (and the rest of us too).
