Pitanga

Let me introduce you to pitanga.  Some people have told me this is the "Brazilian cherry."  They are small and have a pit.  We found them to be sour, but I have since learned the color of the fruit when picked determines how sweet or tart it is.  You can see ours are orange to red, the fruit that is darker red is sweeter.  People like them both ways.

These little treasures aren't available in the grocery store.  You've probably already guessed, but our maid brought them for us, most certainly picked from trees in front of someone else's house.  I pretend to not know and enjoy them while I can.
